Opening of the meeting Buddhism and Psychoanalysis

Beyond my freedom? , the first academic conference bringing together major French psychoanalysts and Buddhists, was held November 27, 2010 at the Institute Psychology at the University of Paris V. The issues raised by the meeting will not allow to have long resonances in listeners, nearly two hundred people from the fields of humanities and cross spirituality. To put the conference in its proper perspective, here are the opening remarks made on behalf of the association event organizer Kids & Psych by its president, editor of Psychology & Meditation your topic.

think it is the human being is indispensable. If the title of this day can immediately seem provocative, it is because today psychology tends to be reduced to the study and demonstration of the self. Jacques Lacan in psychoanalysis French, denounced such a reduction of human subjectivity when he writes "the credo of nonsense that we do not know if modern psychology is the model or caricature. To know me, seen as a function of synthesis and integration of consciousness regarded as a completion of life. " The holding of this conference is a gamble where the stakes are measured in terms of the misunderstanding that has befallen our discipline and more, insofar as it affects us directly, all of us. In this doctrine of a self autonomous, voluntary, reduced to a minimum, a self-identity, in full transparency with respect to itself, the ideology of mass after the economy reigns supreme. The devastating effects of such a drift, where man is caught in the toils of an obsession with performance, results, computability, by its violent indifference, we are reducing, we leave each day more destitute. The sense of this imperative on which nothing seems to have taken, we see the effects every day in our services. It is our responsibility to bear witness not to silence the human voices that reach us.

Rethinking what makes our profession, the various ways to help the clinic closest to the patient, the keenest of the therapeutic experience, is possible only beyond me. In its present self is a world closed in on itself, which can only lead to a confinement of all the greater because the assumptions that support it are legally binding. Faced with almost unanimous approval given to this vision of me, the information is not enough, we must still try of them cast off, back up in the listening room. A certain lack of thought we rushed in a mad dash toward uniformity, without the accumulation of human remains. Giving voice to practitioners and thinkers seems more appropriate than ever. The singular attempt to answer ethical questions raised by this reef, it also demonstrates what makes our practice. To feed a real clinical, there is a need to interrogate psychoanalysis not as bookish sum, but as free thinking that is not the system. The study of the psyche of beings Talking to a spawning calls outside institutional knowledge. City, meanwhile, can no longer afford to be listening to this incredible message of this unique opportunity that represents the possibility of a place where a full speech can take place. The philosopher Jacques Derrida is our problem in a text called "Lest We Forget - psychoanalysis"

"In the times of philosophy, we begin to act as if nothing had happened, as if nothing s 'was passed, as if taking into account the event of psychoanalysis was more rigorous, did not even belong in something like a history of reason: as if you could quietly continue the good old Enlightenment discourse, return to Kant, to remind the responsibility of restoring the authority on the conscience of I think of the cogito reflective of a "I think" without pain and paradox. "

Subversion psychoanalysis that operating on the question of me, that's the case that day. Representatives from the three main currents of psychoanalysis, with as many different readings around the figures of Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Jacques Lacan, meet and this made little Common deserves emphasis. It is a tribute to Jean-Jacques Tyszler analysts, Peter Sullivan and Michel Cazenave, for accepting our invitation to share their views with such good grace. Each traversed by psychoanalysis so differently, is his own life in a position of inferiority in relation to these issues, while enabling a dialogue take place with a rare depth. This conference is hosted by the Institute of Psychology, University Paris V, which has a name: Rene Descartes. Yet it is that we need to Descartes's cogito ego, which is the horizon of modern thought. We would, in a perspective of our West by other routes of thought, those of the East, trying to hear another voice. Beyond my freedom? This is an issue that primarily arises, of which only a true dialogue can give the formula. Faced with philosophical thought, psychoanalysis and Buddhism are contained in paths that are trying to answer this question without recourse to metaphysics.

The man is basically an ego? That Buddhism can no more believe that psychoanalysis, and 2500 years the human mind think in any other horizon. Thus the Buddhist path, neither religion nor morals, or philosophy, does not separate body and spirit, subject and object, theory and practice, the self and the world. It is an upheaval for the West thought so different that it has come in the twentieth century. He by whom meditation and reflection on the lack of ego strength were recorded in our modern world called Chögyam Trungpa. Untiring effort to enter into dialogue with thinkers, artists, academics from America of the 70s marked a generation. Through its pioneering work in translation, the Buddhist tradition has found a new language in the West, largely through psychology. In response to Jean-Luc Giribone, Alain Gaffinel and Fabrice Midal, we at liberty to verify the scope of his revolutionary approach, particularly on the question of ego, even though it is not the assertion ego. In Beyond the spiritual materialism, Trungpa writes:

"In fact, it seems that something called the ego does not correspond to anything," I am "does not exist. It is the accumulation of all sorts of knick-knacks. It is a brilliant work of art, a product of the intellect who says "give it a name, call it the" I Am ", which is very clever. I was the product of the intellect, the trademark that brings in a completely disorganized and fragmented development of the ego. "We would

open and leave open the question of the ego, the subject, instead of the ego. Let us trust that we close the door and not hands on some truth. This attempt of freedom is the reason why we favor the encounter between generations, the currents of thoughts and worlds, at the crossroads of East and West. Hope that this meeting something might be revealed in the joy of thinking together that which is worthy of thought.
